Hero Bread, a low-carb and healthier bread creator earns $15 million in a Series B investment and declares a plan for a nationwide retail launch.

Hero Bread, a creator of low-carb and healthier bread, earned $15 million in a Series B investment and declared plans for a nationwide retail launch. By the end of May, 2,300 shops will carry the company’s products, which are currently sold in 23 grocery stores. A brand of carb-free bread with components like potatoes, fava beans, flax, and allulose meets the profile of what many people are searching for as healthier options.

Hero Bread’s lifetime funding now stands at $47.5 million, with participation from Cleveland Avenue, DNS Capital, Union Grove Venture Partners, Composite Ventures, GreatPoint Ventures, and Tik Tok influencers in the D’Amelio family’s fund 444 Capital. The products will be sold at Sprouts Farmers Market and some local grocers.

To address severe food allergies, Hero Bread was developed. Cole Glass, the company’s founder, and CEO, was unable to consume any fruits, vegetables, or nuts. He began experimenting in the kitchen in 2017 to discover a low-carb way he could consume baked products because he was aware that a high-carbohydrate diet would have negative effects on his health. Celebrities, health enthusiasts, athletes, and other people seeking to eat healthier have praised the final result. Hero Bread made its debut in 2021 as a trial at a few Subway locations.

A $30 million fundraising round that includes professional players Tom Brady and Kevin Durant, musicians The Weeknd and Lil Baby, and Durant’s manager Rich Kleiman’s Thirty-Five Ventures gave it a boost. Brady boasted that the only bread allowed on his stringent athletic diet was Hero Bread. The next year, Hero Bread will begin to sell directly to consumers online and additional at Subway restaurants. In January, it made its grocery debut at local Market District and Dom’s Kitchen & Market shops. Furthermore, the brand expands to become an option on the menu at Just Salad and Freebirds eateries, and it started retailing on Amazon and Walmart.com.

While the brand will now be available at Sprouts Farmers Market and local stores including Tom Thumb, Randall’s, Heinen’s, Buehler’s Fresh Foods, and Albertsons throughout Texas and Louisiana, this most recent expansion will provide funds to keep the brand expanding.

With an average hamburger bun containing more than 21 carbohydrates, bread is sometimes regarded as the king of foods high in carbohydrates. The kind of bread made by Hero Bread has 0 net carbohydrates. According to a FAQ section of the brand’s website, employing modified wheat starch, a dietary fiber, as an ingredient is a key component of the brand’s trade secret.

According to Glass, it took him around two years of trial and error in his kitchen to find the ideal ratio of plant proteins and fiber isolates to create a product that acted and tasted like real bread. Glass also added that unlike businesses attempting to develop the ideal protein combination to create plant-based meat, any undesirable flavours in the flour could not be covered up by flavourings, making his task more challenging.

Hero Bread is not the only firm attempting to produce low-carb bread. BetterBrand started gradually rolling out its Better Bagel in 2021, a less-carbon-dense variation of the classic baked good. Better Bagels made its debut in the frozen bread department of more than 500 Whole Foods Markets last year, breaking into the national retail market. This spring, the business hopes to introduce new baked items. This spring, the world’s largest bakery, Flowers Foods, will also introduce a low-carb, keto-friendly type of its Arnold sliced bread under the Nature’s Own brand. Bimbo Bakeries also offers a low-carb, keto version of their Arnold sliced bread online.
