Burger Singh, India’s leading quick-service restaurant (QSR) chain renowned for its fusion of global and Indian flavors, has announced the successful launch of its newest outlet at the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur. This strategic opening is far more than a simple expansion; it is a clear affirmation of the brand’s highly focused approach on institutional and high-footfall, youth-driven markets, positioning Burger Singh for rapid, sustainable, and scalable growth across the country.

The launch reinforces Burger Singh’s expansion playbook, which prioritizes strategic, high-engagement locations. These include major universities, hospitals, metro stations, and airports—formats that enable quicker rollouts, stronger on-ground presence, and unparalleled accessibility to the brand’s core demographic of young, urban consumers.

Strategic Entry into High-Engagement Zones

The decision to target IIT Kanpur—a hub of young energy and ambition—is central to the company’s vision. By embedding itself within academic campuses, Burger Singh secures a consistent, high-demand consumer base, minimizing the location risk often associated with traditional high-street QSR formats.

Kabir Jeet Singh, Founder & CEO of Burger Singh, emphasized the philosophical basis of this model. “We’ve built Burger Singh on the idea that entrepreneurship in India shouldn’t be limited by capital,” he stated. “Our low-capex model allows first-time business owners to run profitable QSR outlets in high-demand zones like campuses and transit spaces. IIT Kanpur represents that spirit perfectly—young energy, ambition, and the drive to build something of their own.”

The Scalable Low-Capex Franchise Engine

Burger Singh’s aggressive growth, which has seen it scale to over 180 outlets across 80+ cities, is driven by its innovative co-investment franchise model. This model is engineered for capital efficiency and speed of execution, traits that are critical in the competitive Indian QSR landscape.

The investment for these compact kiosk and express formats starts at a modest ₹24–30 lakh, depending on location and size. This lower barrier to entry empowers local entrepreneurs, granting them operational support and a framework built for consistent unit-level profitability.

Bhargav PV, Chief of Staff at Burger Singh, highlighted the tactical advantage of the format: “Our kiosk and compact formats are built to minimise location risk. They work across high-footfall zones, from campuses to metro stations, without the heavy overheads of traditional QSR spaces. The model gives us flexibility to test, scale, or relocate quickly, while maintaining strong unit-level profitability. That’s been key to our rapid, sustainable expansion.”

A Homegrown QSR Success Story

As the only major Made-in-India burger chain competing directly with international giants, Burger Singh continues to cement its reputation as a scalable and proudly Indian QSR network. This latest opening at IIT Kanpur not only serves the institute’s community but also provides a proven template for the brand’s continued focus on smart, rapid expansion into the heart of India’s youth markets. By focusing on low investment formats and high-traffic locations, Burger Singh is paving the way for a new era of agile and profitable quick-service dining in India.
